"Through research, education and partnerships, Jerry is working tirelessly to ensure that our oceans remain healthy and viable for our generation and countless generations to come."
Nothing evokes one’s sense of wonder quite like the ocean. Teeming with life and full of mystery, the ocean is a gift that all generations can share. As President and CEO of the Aquarium of the Pacific, Dr. Jerry R. Schubel is helping share this gift in both an enlightening and inspiring way.
During his 16 years at the helm of the Aquarium, Jerry has played a key role generating attention and action in the areas of conservation, climate change and sustainability. Jerry created the Aquatic Forum, which brings together scientists, policymakers and stakeholders to explore ways of dealing with important, complex and often controversial environmental issues facing California and the nation. He also directs the Aquarium’s Marine Conservation Research Institute, which hosts many of these forums and engages in research and policy work on the local and national level.
Jerry is also working to bring the message of conservation to the public through the Aquatic Academy, a series of evening courses for adults that fosters dialogue on issues related to the ocean and environment. These courses bring together experts in science, business, conservation, policy and academia to share their knowledge and experiences with attendees. Under Jerry’s leadership, the aquarium has also developed some crucial partnerships with national and international agencies and organizations.
Through research, education and partnerships, Jerry is working tirelessly to ensure that our oceans remain healthy and viable for our generation and countless generations to come.
